The Globalizing the Risk Business: surviving and competing in the global insurance industry survey was commissioned by KPMG International and carried out by the Economist Intelligence Unit. It is based on interviews with 148 senior executives in the insurance and re-insurance industry.

The survey highlights the views of industry players on expected consolidation in the sector and the dynamics in the business environment that drive the necessity to change operating models in order to remain competitive.

Key findings include:

• Recent consolidation activity in the industry is due to continue 
• The areas of an insurance company that are critical to ensuring competitive position seem to be changing
• Levels of offshoring are very low.

The report highlights the significant investment that insurance companies need to undertake to streamline their business operating models in a complex and changing competitive environment.
